The Film About the Renovation of the Slovak National Gallery is Free to Watch Until August 21
On the DAFilms platform, viewers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia can watch the story of the gallery and its former director, Alexandra Kusá.
On August 7, 2024, Slovakia’s Minister of Culture, Martina Šimkovičová, dismissed Alexandra Kusá from her position as the director of the Slovak National Gallery. The Minister justified the dismissal by stating that the director had repeatedly mishandled the renovation of the gallery’s main building in Bratislava. Additionally, during a press conference on August 8, she accused the institution of failing to showcase “art, sculptures, and paintings.” A video currently showcasing the gallery’s exhibitions is available here on the day of the press conference.
For those interested in the unique story of the gallery’s renovation, the documentary film “Watch Out, The Slovak National Gallery is Falling Apart” (Pozor, padá SNG) can be watched for free until August 21 from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The film, directed by Jana Durajová and Lena Kušnieriková, was shot over ten years, from the beginning to the end of the renovation.
